How to Renovate a Kitchen (As an Aspiring Chef)

Source

When the average person renovates their kitchen, they often make it look like it does in the showroom. But what if you are a chef? What special considerations do you need to make so that you can continue preparing delicious food for the people you love?

Optimise Your Layout For Efficiency

First, you’ll want to think about the layout. Optimsing it for efficiency allows you to get more done, making things better for you when you entertain a lot of guests.

Most chefs have a galley layout, which lines everything up in a row for them nicely. However, this option is only really worth it if you’re low on space.

L-shaped designs are also worth considering. These allow you to separate the food preparation area from the breakfast area.

Create Ample Prep Space

As an aspiring chef, you’ll also want any new kitchen you own to have ample prep space. You don’t want a situation where you have to change things around or are rubbing elbows with other chefs when preparing a meal.

A lot of chef work is simply mixing and chopping, so lots of chopping space is critical. You’ll also need extra room if you have devices like blenders or dehydrators.

Upgrade Storage

Another thing you’ll want to do is upgrade your storage, especially if you have a lot of chef items. These can sometimes be bulky, and you don’t always want them on the sideboard.

Upgrading your storage is, fortunately, easier than you might think. These days, you can buy affordable ex display kitchens with loads of cabinets for a relatively low price. These often have deep cupboards with room for pans, pots, and anything else you need to keep things going.

Choose Easy-To-Clean Surfaces

You’ll also want to choose easy-to-clean surfaces. These reduce mess significantly and are easy to wipe down once you finish work.

Naturally, hard-to-clean surfaces include anything made of natural stone or wood. With these, food particles and water can get into the interior, causing damage over time.

The best are laminates and stone options covered in protective surfaces. These are much longer lasting.

Add High-Quality Appliances

As an aspiring chef, you’ll also want to think about adding some high-quality appliances to your home kitchen. These can help you simulate the sorts of results that professional kitchens can achieve.

Convection ovens are one option. These are suitable for numerous activities, including baking.

A commercial-grade freezer is also a good buy. These keep ingredients fresh for longer and allow you to keep items in long-term storage, like fresh herbs.

Use Ventilation

Adding plenty of ventilation to your new kitchen is also a sound policy. When cooking, you need to extract waste steam and gases as much as possible.

Ventilation works on different levels. An extractor hood is a must, but you may also require an inside-outside air conditioning unit to reduce humidity and improve the overall cooking environment

So there you have it: some of the tools you can use to renovate a kitchen as an aspiring chef.
